A COMPLETE UNKNOWN (Biographical/Drama/Musical, USA, 2024, duration 141 minutes, directed by James Mangold).
The film chronicles the journey of young Bob Dylan (played by Timothée Chalamet) from his arrival in New York in 1961 to his controversial concert at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. At first, 19-year-old Dylan knocks on Woody Guthrie's door and is introduced to the Greenwich Village folk scene by Pete Seeger. After an unconvincing debut album, he finds his voice as a songwriter, embarking on a romantic adventure with Sylvie Russo and a professional and romantic relationship with Joan Baez. With his socially conscious lyrics, Dylan gained a large following, but tensions with the folk audience grew. His desire to evolve musically led him to experiment with the electric guitar. This transition culminated in the famous (and controversial) moment at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, when he introduced electric sound, provoking strong reactions among folk purists. His choice marked a definitive turning point, not only artistically, but also symbolically. The event is free, but the number of headphones for multilingual viewing in Italian, German and English is limited (200 pieces), so to participate you must book online at Eventbrite, write to experience@grado.it or call +39 0431 80383.
